Obituary of Juanita C. Garron
Juanita C. Garron (da Silva)
Born on June 16, 1925, formerly of Pinehurst, Lunenburg Co., passed away on Monday, December 22, 2014 in Mississauga, Ontario. She was the daughter of Francisco “Frank” and Alma (Covey) daSilva. Juanita left home at an early age to work in Caledonia and later Liverpool, Queens County, where she met and married James Garron, formerly of Upper Woods Harbour, Shelburne County. They had one child, Beverley. Juanita moved to Toronto, during the early 1950’s where she found various types of employment. She was an avid “country and western” music fan and visited the Grand Ole Opry, eighty-eight times in Nashville, Tennessee and had the pleasure of meeting most of the male and female “stars” of her day. With a great deal of encouragement from these people she started singing country and western bible songs and hymns. Her talent was recognized by the major country and western associations in the province of Ontario and she became known as “the Mother of Country Music”. She was well-known for singing her rendition of “One Day At A Time” and for singing Canada’s National Anthem at the opening and closing of Ontario’s country and western music associations during their meetings, jamborees and various events, province wide. Juanita loved country and western music and she assisted and helped many young and aspiring females and males to enter this field of music. She was a loving sister. Juanita was predeceased by her parents; her husband, James and her daughter, Beverley and her eldest brother, Francisco. She is survived by her youngest brother, Durward (Barbara), Petite Riviere, Lunenburg County. Cremation has taken place and a public service will be held at 2 p.m., on Wednesday, September 21 in Pinehurst. Rev. Robert Zinck officiating. Interment in the Pinehurst Community Cemetery, Pinehurst. Memorial donations may be made to Pinehurst Community Cemetery or a charity of choice.
