Obituary of Mona Christabel Jensen

Mona Christabel Jensen Age 94 Bridgewater, formerly of Upper LaHave, passed away on Tuesday April 19, 2016 in Hillside Pines Home for Special Care, Bridgewater. Born in LaHave, January 27, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Eber and Alice (Himmelman) Shankle. In her teenage years Mona worked at Creaser’s Clothing Factory in LaHave and then briefly taught school at Tancook Island before her marriage. She sailed with her Uncles on the Himmelman Supply boats and also worked at the Riverport Fish Plant. She was a member of the Rebekah’s Lodge and the UCW in Middle LaHave. She loved her husband’s homeland Norway and everything Norwegian. Her other passion was traveling, which took her all over the world including Europe, the Scandinavian countries, Egypt, USA, the Caribbean and had many cruises and bus tours. She had a special love for her cats. Mona is survived by her daughters, Frances (Charles Robar) Feindel, Farmington; Julia (David Ricketts) Day, Lumsden Pond; Karen Jensen, Bridgewater; sons, Anton Jensen, Texas; Randolph (Florence) Jensen, Dartmouth; Arthur (Barbara) Jensen, Simpsons Corner; Roy (Margaret) Jensen, Upper LaHave; stepson, Eilif (Anne) Aspenes, Sweden; 8 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Ottar; sister, Rhoda Johansen, step son, Magnus Aspenes and step father, Bertrum Shankel. Visitation will be held 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM Thursday April 21 in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Friday, April 22 also in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater with Rev. Ron Frampton officiating. Burial will follow in Middle LaHave Cemetery. Family flowers only, please. Memorial donations may be made to St. John’s United Church, Middle LaHave or SHAID Animal Shelter.
