Age 96 passed away on Thursday January 28, 2016 in Marietta, Georgia. Born on September 13, 1919 in Oak Lake, Manitoba, he was the son of the late Chaplain Hon. Capt. The Rev. Thomas Arthur Mosley, OMFC (Oversea Military Forces of Canada) and Ethel Hilda (Huggons-Brown) Mosley. Ron went to public schools in Bridgewater Nova Scotia; Haverhill Mass; Stafford Springs and Norwich Conn.; graduated New Bedford High School, MA in 1937. He went on to DePauw University, Indiana; Boston University College of Arts and Sciences-BA, Boston University School of Theology – STB, MDiv., STM, DMin and Army Chaplain School at Harvard University. He also did seminars at Oxford University, University of Maine and Dartmouth College. He was a student pastor (intern) Woods Hole MA. Summer of 1940 and in the Fall-Winter of 1940 Bainbridge-Raccoon, IN, in Jan. 1941-Sept 1943 he was in Bryantville-West Duxbury, MA. Ron was Ordained as a Methodist Minister on July 18, 1943 and was commissioned as a U.S. Army Chaplain on Sept. 22, 1943. He served on active duty to March 1946. As an US Army Chaplain he rose to the rank of Captain, in the 424th Infantry Regiment of the 106th Infantry Division of South Carolina. Ron served in Tennessee, Indiana, England and Europe. He was wounded on December 30, 1944 and hospitalized in Southern England. He then served as Chaplain at 188th US General Hospital, Cirencester, UK. Percy Jones Hospital Center Annex, Michigan and inactive duty to the US Army Reserve. Ron retired from USAR in 1955 as Chaplain (LTC). His decorations include the Bronze Star with V device, the Purple Heart, European Theater Service Medal, American Theater Service Medal and the Victory Medal USAR Medal. In 1946 he was the interim Director of Southwest Harbor-Tremont Larger Parish, ME and from 1947 to 1952 he was the pastor of Methodist Churches of Newburyport, Wellesley Hills-East Natick MA and Marlborough, NH. He transferred to United Church of Christ in 1957 and held pastorates at Bar Harbor, Camden, Freeport, ME. His many honours and awards include the US UNICEFF Committee award for “Trick or Treat program; “Citation from US General Commission on Chaplains, in 1985 he received the America Legion Canadian Friendship Award, 1992 he received the YMCA Canada Peace Medal, the Royal Canadian Legion Meritorious Service Medal, was awarded a Life Membership and served as the Honorary Chaplain for the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 24, Bridgewater Nova Scotia. Ron was a Life member of 106th Infantry Division Association, the American Legion, the AMVETS (Massachusetts State Chaplain 1951-52), Military Chaplains Association of the USA (President New England branch 1971-72), Veterans Against Nuclear Arms (VANA Canada), Veterans for Peace in USA, former Rotarian and Lions Club member and a Mason. Ron travels were vast, as an infant in UK to age two then moved to New England from Nova Scotia in 1928, in 1933 to UK for three months, four months’ sabbatical in 1960 – to UK, European Continent by auto. To Palestine and vicinity with a canoe trip on the Jordan River, he also visited the Dead Sea, Sea of Galilee, Italy, Greece and Cyprus, again to the UK in 1976, ’77 and 78, twice to visit Ardennes and UK. In 1984 he went to Russia with 106th Division veterans on 40th Anniversary of WWII. In 1993 it was back to UK as VANA delegate to peace convention and to Japan in 1995 as VANA delegate to peace conference on 50th anniversary of Hiroshima/Nagasaki nuclear bombing. He returned to Nova Scotia residence in 1972 and appointed to Canada National and Nova Scotia UNICEFF Executive boards, he served as Vice Chair and Chair of UNICEFF Nova Scotia Committee 1972-1975. Ron was a weekly journalist in The Bridgewater Bulletin newspaper from 1975 to 2007 with the “Kit Bag” and “Consider this.” Ron’s did not limited himself to writing for the paper, he also wrote Books, “Life Up Your Life!”, in 1955 Bar Harbor Times, “The Kit Bag”, in 2004 and “Walk With Me.” 2015 with the Royal Canadian Legion Bridgewater Branch 24. Ron is survived by his wife Priscilla Edith (Mitchell) Mosley of Marietta Georgia; sons Professor Ronald A. Mosley, Jr. JD., University of Maine – Machias; Professor Gordon G. Mosley D.B.A., Troy University, AL; daughter Katherine E. Mosley Mills, Lafayette IN; step children Dru E. Groves, Elgin Taxes; Richard I Mitchell Jr., Jasper Georgia; J.P. Mitchell, Marietta Georgia; 10 grandchildren scattered across the United States and Australia; sister Anne Elizabeth (Mosley) Heyworth, Laguna Beach CA. He was predeceased by his first wife Eloise (Chapin) Mosley and his sister Barbara (Mosley) Mitchell. A Celebration of Hope, Joy, Peace and Faith was held Saturday, February 6th in The Episcopal Church of St. Peter & St. Paul, Marietta, GA. A memorial service will be held in Bridgewater Baptist Church on Saturday May 14, 2016 at 1:00 PM., Rev Willis Ott officiating.
