Obituary of Tony G. McCracken
Tony G. McCracken (P. Eng.)
Of Bridgewater, passed away at home on July 30 surrounded by loved ones at the age of 72. A devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather, as well as a wonderful father-in-law, brother and brother-in-law, he was a man of principle and strong values, the strongest being “family first”. Tony was an avid curler and proudly has his name hanging in the Bridgewater Curling club as the 2005-06 NS Men’s Masters Champion. He loved tending to his gardens, and spent many days with his friends and family at the Osprey Ridge Golf Club, as well, where he was a volunteer and board member for many years. He had a wry sense of humour and intelligent wit, was smart, kept up with the modern times, and completed the Chronicle Herald crossword every day. Tony worked for the NS Dept. of Transportation for 28 years as a civil engineer, retiring in 1996, and brought a meticulous approach to his work and to the home. He believed that anything worth doing was worth doing right. Born in Armstrong’s Corner, NB, and raised in McAdam, NB, he is pre-deceased by his parents James and Sadie (Howe) McCracken. Tony is survived by the love of his life since age 15, Rose (Chessie). They built a life and family together that is admired by many. They were true best friends and provided a loving legacy and foundation for us all to build upon. He is also survived by children Mark (Jackie), Jeffrey (Tracie), Michelle (David Locke), and Peter (Lori); and grandchildren Aidan, Brennan, Jacob, Chloe, Sarah, Lydia, Erin, Sadie and Adam. Although a man of few words, he was a true friend and confidant who could be counted on for sound advice, loyalty and continuing support. He is bound for glory, may he rest in peace and forever be in our hearts. Visitation will be held 6:00 to 9:00 P.M., Thursday August 4th in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater, and funeral services will take place 11:00 A.M. Friday August 5th in St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Bridgewater. Fr. Jim MacDonald, OMI officiating. A private family interment will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater.
