Obituary of Edward Earl Ryder
Edward Earl Ryder
(January 30, 1924 – March 13, 2016). We fondly remember Edward Ryder of Pleasantville, Lunenburg Co., who passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2016, at 92 years of age. He was born in Ottawa, one of two sons of the late, Lt. Col. The Venerable W.E. Ryder D.D., and Catherine Mae (Cuzner) Ryder. He lived in Lunenburg, with his family in the rectory of St. John’s Anglican Church. A few steps away was the Lunenburg Academy where he met his future wife, Lillian Muriel Veinote. They were later married in St. John’s Anglican Church on August 22, 1951, the ceremony presided over by his father. During the Second World War, he served in the Canadian Army overseas in the R.C.A. Medical Corp. After the war Eddie had a successful career in sales. He was a member of Unity Masonic Lodge No. 4 A.F. & A.M., Lunenburg, The Royal Canadian Legion, branch 23, Lunenburg, being a life member, Deputy-Zone Commander and past president. He was also a chartered member of the Senior Wheels of the Lions Club and many other community clubs. Eddie and Lillian lived in Dartmouth, then settled in Pleasantville. It was a very sad time in their lives when their only child, Kathy, died at the age of 38. Eddie was also predeceased by his only brother, Walter Cuzner Ryder. He is survived by his adored wife of 64 years, Lillian; many nieces, one nephew and many great nieces and nephews. Eddie and Lillian’s home was a hub of social activity where cherished family, friends, and neighbours gathered for meals and celebrations. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m., Wednesday, March 23, in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater, where a Masonic tribute will be at 6:45 p.m., followed by a Legion tribute at 7 p.m. Memorial service will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, March 24, 2016 at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Bridgewater with Rev.
