91, Of Springfield Annapolis Co. passed away at the Camp Hill Veterans’ Memorial Building, Halifax on Saturday May 17, 2008. Born in Hemford, Lunenburg Co. he was the son of the late James Garfield and Flo (Russell) Conrad and was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Russell was a veteran of the Second World War, having served with the Royal Canadian Air Force. He was very active with his community over the years. He was a founding member of the Springfield Fire Department, a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, branch 102, New Germany serving as secretary for a number of years. Russell also worked for his church for many years. He enjoyed bowling, loved to golf and was very passionate when it came to the care of his lawn. He is survived by his wife, Ruth (Veinot); daughter Karen (Tim) Fisher, Bridgewater; grand-daughters, Riley and Brittany; special nephew Barry and other numerous nieces and nephews. Russell was predeceased by his sister Jean Schnare and brother Ronald Conrad. There will be no visitation by request. A memorial service will be held 2pm Friday May 23, in the Springfield United Baptist Church, Rev. Robert Gates officiating. A private burial will follow. Immediate family flowers only, please.
