George Neil Joudrey
Age 89, Bridgewater, Lunenburg Co., passed away on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Newburne, he was a son of the late Dorothy (Veinotte) Joudrey and stepfather, Oran Joudrey. A loving husband, devoted father, and caring grandfather, George provided a stable foundation for his family. Active in the Bridgewater Baptist Church, he served on various boards and in many ministries. His love for the outdoors was expressed in camping and canoe trips, his vegetable gardening and in the assorted nature-scapes he painted. A quiet, hardworking man, George spent summers in his younger years employed at Bowater Mersey, the New Brunswick Museum and a farm in Clarence. He also worked a year as a night clerk at the Fairview Hotel in Bridgewater. His chief vocation was teaching for 37 years in various schools in Lunenburg County. A highly-respected educator, he always wanted the best for his students. This included coaching hockey in his home community, Newburne, as well as at Hebbville Junior-Senior High. George was a man of diverse interests. He loved history, music, sports and reading. A passion for learning, he received a scholarship to attend Mount Allison University and completed a Masters of Arts in History at Dalhousie University. Surviving are his wife, Janet (Morse) Joudrey; daughters, Alison (Daniel) Williams, Liverpool; Jennifer (Francis) Varner, Barss Corner; Susan (Samuel Bolton) Joudrey, Halifax; grandchildren, Gwendolyn Williams, Georgia Williams, Tobias Bolton; half-sisters, Althea Rhodenizer, Nellie Veinot, Carolyn Feener; sister-in-law, Vivian Joudrey. He was predeceased by half-brothers, Herschel Joudrey, Curtis Joudrey. Visitation 2-4 p.m., Friday, February 10 in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Funeral service will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, February 11, in Bridgewater Baptist Church. Rev. Dr. Brian MacArthur officiating. Private family interment will be in Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Lunenburg County VON, Canadian Cancer Society, or charity of choice.
