Obituary of Robert Wikstrom

Robert "Wick" Wikstrom 63, Croustown, Lunenburg Co., passed away suddenly January 9, 2002, at home. Born in Hamden, Conn., he was the son of the late H.A. and Grace Wikstrom. When he was nine, Wick and his family moved to Ticonderoga, N.Y. After graduating from high school, he attended Bishops University in Lennoxville, Que. He later returned to the United States and served two years in the Army, mostly teaching ceramics to officers' wives. Wick moved to Nova Scotia and studied at the Art College of Nova Scotia where he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. For many years, he owned and operated Mariner Craft in Petite Riviere. He was a fixture at Nova Scotia's most prominent craft shows including the Christmas craft market at Dalplex and the Lunenburg Craft Festival. He was a founding member of the LaHave Craft Co-op in LaHave. Wick's most notable crafts were his stained and fused glass works, in particular his "vicious fish" and his fine art collages. Wick and his work were featured in The Wonderful World of Wick, produced by CBC television in Halifax and on On the Road Again with Wayne Ronstad. But, of all his accomplishments as a craftsman, perhaps his greatest achievement was his talent for making people laugh. Wick's humour and his generous and supportive spirit, captured the hearts and touched the lives of legions of adults and children in his life time. he will be warmly remembered and greatly missed by a wide circle of friends from around the world, especially in Canada, the United States and Mexico. He is survived by his sister, Eileen Bordeau, Cround Point, N.Y.; three nieces and a nephew. He will be sadly missed by his cat, Benson. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sweeny's Funeral Home, Bridgewater. A gathering in his memory will be held at a later date. Donations to SHAID Tree Animal Shelter, RR 3, Bridgewater, N.S. B4V 2W2.
