Obituary of Audrey Heim

Audrey Lerene Heim Of Chelsea. Her death occurred at the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater on November 19, 2003, where she was a patient for a short time. She was born on the family homestead in New Canada, February 20, 1921, the only daughter of the late Helen Eunice (Knox) and James Albert Wentzell. She was educated in New Canada, walking a mile and half every day to school, completing her education with correspondence courses through the Department of Education before continuing her studies of nursing at Yarmouth Hospital School of Nursing. She told great stories of good times with her brothers and cousins and made life long friendships through her nursing profession, working for a brief time at the Dawson Memorial Hospital, before marrying her late husband Orace and moving to Chelsea. She became a wife, farmer, caregiver enjoying handcrafts and was an avid reader. She was a very active member in a community of which she was very proud to be a part of. She enjoyed every aspect of her life, never complaining of the chronic and disabling pain she coped with daily. She developed an extensive genealogical library which continues to be a resource to many interested in their families history in Chelsea and beyond. She was the first president of the Chelsea Community Centre, which was a two -year term. Active member of the Chelsea Women’s Missionary Society, receiving the Dominion Life Membership from the Baptist Women’s Missionary Society of Nova Scotia; charter member of the Chelsea Women’s Institute, South Shore Genealogical Society, Wentzell Genealogical Society. She held many positions in the church where she was a truly devoted Christian, with a strong faith in the words of the Lord. She was recognized provincially with the Canadian Red Cross and an active supporter of the Canadian Bible Society. Surviving are her brother Laurie (Dorothy) Wentzell, Montreal; sisters -in -law, Antionette (Heim) Meisner, Nettie (Willis) Heim, Glennis (Melvin) Wentzell. Many nieces, nephews and cousins, her caregiver, Connie Cleversey and pet companion Dusty. She was predeceased by husband, Orace; brothers, Melvin and Donald. Visitation for family and friends will be Friday 2 - 4, 7-9 in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Funeral service 11 a.m., Sunday in Chelsea United Baptist Church , Pastor Tom Davidson and Rev. John Kaulback officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Chelsea. Reception will follow at the Chelsea Community Centre. Family flowers only, donations may be made to Chelsea United Baptist Church, Maple Grove Cemetery, Nova Scotia Arthritis Society or charity of choice.
