Obituary of Hubert MacKay

Hubert Cecil MacKay 81, New Germany, Lunenburg Co., passed away Wednesday, December 31, 2003 in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Upper Northfield, he was a son of the late Kenneth and Blanche (Hall) MacKay. He was a veteran of the Second World War, where he served overseas. After the war, he returned back to New Germany where he worked with his father and brother Owen at the family business; MacKay’s Saw Mill. After the closure of the mill, he worked as a carpenter for the Lunenburg County District School Board for nine years and then retired. He was a member of Epworth United Church, New Germany and past member of the IOOF, New Germany. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Surviving are his wife, the former Jean DeLong; son, Alvin, Halifax. Granddaughters, Alexa and Jennifer MacKay, both of Newmarket, Ontario. Several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by infant daughters, Janet and Betty. Sisters, Irene Fancy, Pauline Zwicker. Brothers, Walter, Aubrey and Owen. Visitation 2 -4, 7-9 p.m., Saturday in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, 4895 route 10, New Germany. Funeral 3 p.m., Sunday in Epworth United Church, New Germany. Rev. Joan Conrad officiating. Burial will follow in Epworth Cemetery, New Germany. Flowers from the immediate family only.
