Obituary of Gaius Bollivar

Gaius Spurgeon Bollivar October 24, 1912 – June 1, 2004 Beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away Tuesday morning June 1, 2004 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Comox, B. C. He slipped away peacefully in his sleep following a recent stroke. Predeceased by his wife Marjorie (nee Curran), father Leroy and mother Zilpha, brothers Ralph, George, Manford and infant, Gaius will be forever missed by his daughters Ann Snyder (John) of Eastern Passage, N.S., Margaret Leighton (Tom) of Courtenay, B.C., and grandsons, Alan Snyder (Ann Marie) of Eastern Passage and Stephen MacCallum of Sudbury, Ontario. He will live on in the memories of his sisters Seretha Montpetit, Edith Stuart and Jean Wagner, and brothers Malcolm (Mabel) and Lawrence (Pauline), nieces and nephews. Gaius was an exceptional contributor to the community by offering needed services in a friendly and neighbourly way and gave his time willingly. He was devoted to caring for his family through kindness, wisdom and guidance creating a warm and loving environment for his family and friends. He always smiled with the contentment of someone who had led a good life. He was born in Broad Cove, NS retiring from the business he and his wife ran in partnership for many years in 1984. He was a member of St. Mark’s Anglican Church, United Communities Fire Department, and participated in many community events. He relocated to Courtenay in July of 2002 to live with his daughter Margaret (Margie) and her husband Tom. Visitation for family and friends will be 2-4 p.m. Saturday in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Funeral will be 1 pm on Monday, June 7th at St. Mark’s Anglican Church in Broad Cove. Interment to follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. Reception to follow in Broad Cove Community Hall. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Mark’s Anglican Church in Broad Cove, The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, or any charity of your choice. The family would like to thank Dr. Ptak and Dr. Law and the staff of St. Joseph’s Hospital. Special thanks to the Palliative Care staff and Fr. George Daley for their compassionate care.
