Obituary of Charles Corkum

Charles Gerald Corkum 90, of Mount Pleasant, Lunenburg County, passed away at the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater, January 24, 2004. Born in Mount Pleasant, youngest son of the late Capt. Charles and Alice (Meisner) Corkum. He went to sea at an early age, was employed by Canada Steamship Line for 17 years where he obtained his first mates Home Trade Certificate. He joined Markland Shipping Co. in 1947 where he sailed to many foreign ports. From 1963 until retirement in 1978 he was employed by Ministry of Transport in the Search and Rescue unit. He was a devout member of West Side United Church, Elder (emeritus) and trustee for many years; also a member of Empire Lodge 99, Petite Riviere for over 70 years. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marguerite (Misner); daughter, Edith (Douglas) Berrigan, Mount Pleasant; son, Harland (Joann), Richmond, B.C.; grandsons, Wayne (Johanna) Berrigan, Mount Uniacke; Brian (Laurie) Berrigan and great grandson, Brandon, Pincourt Q. C.; nephew Bill (Florence) Corkum, Mount Pleasant; great niece/nephews, Elizabeth, Kenworth and James. He was predeceased by brothers, Lawrence and Clark. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. A memorial service will be held 2pm Tuesday in the West Side United Church, Pentz, Rev Sally McShane and Rev George MacLean officiating. Internment for family members only at Lakeside Cemetery, Mount Pleasant. Family flowers only.
