Obituary of John Glenwood Foley

John "Jack" Glenwood Foley (Red, Ace, Sgt.)
Of Bridgewater died at the South Shore Regional Hospital on June 3, 2008 in his 89th year. Born in Bridgewater Nova Scotia, he was a son of the late Charles Aubrey Foley and Emma Myra (Beck) Foley. A veteran of the Second World War, he served overseas with the 1st Med. Artillery Regiment from Jan. 1941 to November 1945. He also served with the RCAF in Canada, United States, England, France and Germany from 1949 to 1970. He was one of the first letter carriers in Bridgewater and had the honor of delivering the first letter to then Mayor, John Hirtle. Jack is survived by brother, Eric Foley (Ontario) and sisters Lucille Dunning (Ontario) and Norma Taylor (Halifax) as well as a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers Cameron Foley, Richard “Dick” Foley and sisters Kathleen “Kaye” Hubley, Elizabeth “Betty” Latremouille, Barbara Dolliver and Vivian Foley. His family honored his long time wish to donate his body to Dalhousie University for Medical Research. . A public Royal Canadian Legion tribute will be held at Sweeny’s Funeral Home on July 17, 2008 at 7 pm. No flowers by request. Memorial donations may be made to the Dr. Arthur H. Patterson Center for Restorative Care at the Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg.
