Obituary of Vella Greene

Vella Dora Greene 91, Queens Manor Liverpool, formerly of Bridgewater, passed away May 15, 2004. Born in Waterloo, Lunenburg County, in 1912, she was the daughter of the late Marcus and Jennie Crouse. As a young woman, she worked as a hairdresser and in retail sales. Of all her work experience, her family was the most important to her. Vella was a long time adherent of the Bridgewater United Church; she supported the South Shore Regional Hospital with numerous handmade items for new born babies. She supported the Senior Wheels program and other organizations in her community over the years. Vella was well known to her family and friends as a very positive person with a common sense attitude. Her motto seemed to be, “Make the best of what you have and find the best in those you meet”. Vella will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Vella is survived by her son, Richard (Marilyn), Berwick; granddaughter, Lacie Greene, great granddaughter Megan Howard and great grandson Jonathon Howard of Bridgewater; sister Lola (Hardy) Freeman of Greenfield and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Aitkens; sister, Eletha Veinot; brothers, Curtis, Garth and Ira Crouse. Funeral service will be held 11am Wednesday in Sweeny Funeral Home, Bridgewater, Rev George MacLean officiating. Burial will follow in the Pine Grove Cemetery. There will be no visitation at the funeral home by request. Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Vella’s memory may be made to the Bridgewater United Church, Pine Grove Cemetery Fund or the charity of your choice.
