Obituary of Greta Himmelman

Greta Audrey Lillian Himmelman 78, Petite Riviere, formerly of LaHave, died May 23, 2004 in South Shore Regional Hospital after a brief illness. Born in LaHave, October 2, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Captain Gabriel David and Blanche Lillian (Hirtle) Pentz. She graduated from Mount Allison Commercial College in 1944. As a loving wife of her husband, Lawrence, she managed Himmelman’s Red & White in LaHave, while being supportive of her husband’s business ventures. In her early years, she was actively involved in the United Church as organist & choir director and in the Girl Guides of Canada, acting as commissioner for many years. During retirement, she volunteered at the South Shore Regional Hospital, acting as director for a short period of time. In 1999, she published her father’s memoirs, Skipper Gabe, and was very proud of this accomplishment. She spent many happy hours playing bridge and until her death, looked forward to her Friday afternoon games with her friends in Petite Riviere. Surviving are her daughters, Nancy Claire (Jim) Ringland, Australia; Ruth Elizabeth Ann (Cameron) Seamone, Bridgewater; son, David Ernest (Paula Mosher), Pleasantville; sister, Hazel Marie, Petite Riviere. As a loving grandmother, she will be sadly missed by her grandchildren, Darcy, Benjamin & Sally Ringland, Australia; Kevin & Kristy Seamone; Kelly, Laura & Ryan Himmelman. She was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence Benjamin ; her brothers, Everett Winston and Harold George; her sister, Mildred Claire, in infancy. Cremation has taken place, with no visitation at the funeral home by request. Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, May 27, at Bridgewater United Church, Rev. Ivan Norton officiating. Interment at Fort Point Cemetery, LaHave, at a later date. Family flowers only, memorial donations can be made to South Shore Regional Hospital Foundation or to any charity.
