Obituary of Loretta Howie

Loretta Vaughan Howie (Himmelman) 84, LaHave, Lunenburg Co., passed away peacefully, Thursday, October 28, 2004 in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in LaHave, she was a daughter of the late Andrew and Edna (Josey) Himmelman. She went to Boston to train as a airdresser and then returned to Halifax and worked for a number of years; before moving to the family home in LaHave where she continued her hairdressing profession. She was a member of St. James Anglican Church, LaHave, where she was a superintendent of the Sunday School for several years, member of St. James Ladies Guild, honorary member of the LaHave and District Fire Department, Ladies auxiliary member of the Royal Canadian Legion, branch 24, Bridgewater, and member of the New Dublin Pioneer’s Club. Surviving are her daughters, Edna (Kerry) Himmelman, Bridgewater; Margaret (Greg) Bolivar, Hebbville. Four grandchildren, Michael and Ryan Himmelman, Brittany and Selena Bolivar. Brother, Brady (Ramona) Himmelman, LaHave; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband George (Ted) Howie; brothers, Fletcher, Ace, Bill, Tom, Harlon Butler and James in infancy; sisters, Margaret, Reta, Emma, Ada and Elfleda. Visitation will be 7 – 9 p.m. Saturday in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Funeral 2 p.m. Sunday in St. James Anglican Church, LaHave. Rev. David Phillips officiating. Burial in St. Peter’s Cemetery, West LaHave with a reception to follow at the LaHave and District Fire Hall.
