Obituary of Mary Laing

Mary Beatrice Steadman Laing Passed away peacefully at her home in Shoreham Village, Chester, at the age of 93 on April 14, 2004. She was predeceased by her husband, Henry Edwin "Ted" Laing; brothers, Lester, Waldo, Marshall, Paul and Hoyt Steadman. Mary is survived by her daughter, Patricia Thorne (husband E.L. Ted Thorne); grandchildren, Sarah and Ted, all of Millarville, Alta. Surviving nieces and nephews are, Janet Morgan, Halifax; Grant Steadman, Abbotsford, B.C.; Barry Steadman, Courtney, B.C.; Guy Steadman, Vernon, B.C.; Carla Steadman, Delta, B.C.; Bill Steadman, Edmonton, Ala. Mary Laing was born in Pleasant River, Queens Co., and lived most of her life in Bridgewater, where she was a member of the Bridgewater United Church, actively participating in the United Church Women's group as well as teaching Sunday School. She served as standard bearer for the I.O.D.E., was involved in gardening, flower arranging and was noted for her talented, artistic pressed flower creations. She is remembered for her strong Christian faith, the example she set for others, her compassion and zest for life to the last. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 17, at 11 a.m. in Sweeny's Funeral Home Chapel, Bridgewater. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
