85, Bridgewater. It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Frank Gow at his home on November 20th, 2008 surrounded in love by his family. He was the son of the late Walter A. and Jean (Clarke) Gow. Frank was born in Bridgewater, N.S. on April 24th, 1923. After attending school, he trained as an RCAF pilot during World War II, receiving his wings in 1944. Following the war he graduated from the Maritime Business College in 1947. Shortly thereafter he went to work in the family owned hardware business, alongside his brother Ken in the early years. He guided its expansion from a very small store through three subsequent locations to the present day Gow’s Home Hardware in Bridgewater. He also contributed to Home Hardware on the national level, serving on its Board of Directors from 1978-1989. Frank was active in the community as a member of the Bridgewater Volunteer Fire Department for 43 years, serving as Chief for nine years and as a member of the Bridgewater Volunteer Fire Department Band for 45 years. He took an active interest in the youth of the community, coaching the Bridgewater High School Hockey team to the Nova Scotia Provincial High School Championships, winning in 1961 and 1963. He also volunteered as a Boy Scout Leader. A member of the Bridgewater United Baptist Church since the early 1950’s he served the Church in many capacities, including Treasurer, Chairman of Deacons, Finance Committee and Church Choir. Frank will be remembered for his love of family, a man of great integrity and honesty in business, and sincerity and compassion by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley (Fraser), son Peter (Zelda), daughter Sharon Gow-Knickle (David), grandchildren Jennifer and Denise Gow, brothers, Walter (Evelyn), Donald (Viola), Andrew (Phyllis) and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his daughter Reverend Patricia Gow, brother, Kenneth (Wynn); sister, Jean Fielding. Visitation will be held Monday from 7pm to 9pm in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater, with cremation to follow. A Baptist Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held 2pm Tuesday in the Bridgewater United Church, Rev. Eric Campbell and Rev. Sarah Scott officiating. A reception will follow the service in the Christian Education Center at the church. No flowers by request. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the N. S.
