Obituary of Ena Wentzell

Ena Margaret Wentzell 85, Upper Northfield, passed away peacefully, Sunday, June 6, 2004 at Roseway Hospital, Shelburne. Born in Upper Northfield she was the daughter of the late Reginald and Mary (Demond) MacKay. She grew up and lived most of her life on her family’s farm except when she followed her husband, Andrew Wentzell, whom she married in 1940, to various military bases in Ontario; Gander, Newfoundland; Moncton, New Brunswick; Comox, B.C., during the war. Upon returning to Upper Northfield, after the Second World War, she joined and became a life long member of the United Women’s Association, the Women’s Institute and along with her Andrew, a member of the Seabreeze Campers. In 1960, she and her husband opened the White Rose Service Station at the Bridgewater Plaza which later became Andrew’s Shell. Through her many business and camping trips she traveled and met countless friends throughout North America. She is survived by her brother, Foster MacKay. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Andrew Wentzell; sisters, Muriel Silver and Verna MacKay and an infant brother. Visitation for family and friends will be 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Funeral 2 p.m., Wednesday in Upper Northfield United Church. Rev. Joan Conrad officiating. Burial will follow in the Upper Northfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Upper Northfield United Church, Upper Northfield Cemetery or charity of choice.
