Obituary of Winnifred Whynot
Winnifred Estelle Whynot
91, Buckfield, Queens Co., passed away Sunday, September 26, 2004 in the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Bridgewater, she was the youngest daughter of the late John and Ella May (Crouse) Bolivar and last surviving member of her immediate family. She grew up in Baker Settlement. As a newlywed in the early 1930’s she and her husband Forrest moved into their first home in Buckfield. Before she could even unpack, somebody knocked on her door asking if she would take over the post office. Shortly thereafter, she became the postmistress in Buckfield, a position she held for 30 years. A devoted elementary school teacher as well, she retired in 1978 with 30 years of service in the Lunenburg and Queen’s County School Boards. During the latter fifteen years of her career she taught remedial reading. She will be remembered as a devoted community leader. She was a past president and life member of the Women’s Institute of Nova Scotia. She was a member and organist of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Baker Settlement. She was also the organist at the United Baptist Church in Buckfield for many years. She organized many school and church concerts and parade entries, working tirelessly making costumes and directing the music. Loving grandmother, mother, teacher, friend and wonderful homemaker. She is survived by son, Douglas Whynot, Buckfield (companion Kaye Countway); daughter, Shirley Bezanson, Head of St. Margaret’s Bay; Grandchildren, Kevin (Betty) Bezanson, Burandi, Africa; Carol (Blair) Gallant, Tantallon; Patricia (Stephen) Forsythe, Boutiliers Point; Paul Bezanson (Lynn Sawyer), Halifax. 6 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Forrest of 62 years; sister, Helen Hebb; brothers, Carmen, Harry, Elmer Visitation will be 7 – 9 p.m. Wednesday in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Funeral service 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Baker Settlement. Rev. Willis Ott officiating, Rev. Tom Davidson assisting. Burial to follow in Pine Rest Cemetery, Greenfield.
