Obituary of George Wilson

George Stanley Wilson Of Hebbville, Lunenburg County, passed away peacefully at home, May 15, 2004, at the age of 88. Born in Halifax on Feb. 29, 1916, he was the only son of the late George and Catherine Wilson. Better known to his family and friends as Buster, he drove his first truck along the Montreal waterfront for a sugar refinery at the age of 14. He went to work for Hirtle’s South Shore Auto Freight in Hebbville in 1938, married Ruby (Hirtle) on Christmas day in 1940 and continued with the company until he retired 51 years later. Buster was a member and elder of the Bridgewater United Church and enjoyed his many hours spent helping at the food bank. He spent his spare time making model boats, trucks and doll houses for family and friends. The joy of his life was spending time with Ruby and the family at the cottage in Green Bay. He leaves to mourn daughters, Marianne (Greg) Goodwin, Hebbville; Bette (Ronald) Veinot, New Canada; Judy (John) Harvey, Dartmouth. He was a loving grandfather to Connie Jefferson , his loving caregiver, (Paul Mailman), Hebbville; David (Mary) Jefferson, London, Ont.; Mary Jefferson, Branch LaHave; Peter (Jeanette) Jefferson, Hebbville; Todd (Rhonda) Jefferson, Lower Branch; Cindy (Bobby) Hubley, New Canada; George (Cheryn) Goodwin, Bridgewater; Paul Veinot, New Canada; John (Charlene) Harvey, Dartmouth; Jamie and Jeff Harvey, Dartmouth; 21 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 62 years, Ruby, in August of 2003; sisters, Eileen and Margaret. Visitation will be held Monday from 7 to 9pm in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Funeral service will be held 2pm Tuesday in the Bridgewater United Church, Rev George MacLean and Rev Alexander MacLean officiating. Private family burial will follow in the Hebbville Cemetery.
