Obituary of Ralph Johnson

Ralph Scott Johnson Died peacefully on Sunday, July 10, 2005. Born in Digby on February 27, 1923, he was the eldest son of Walter and Isabelle (Vantassel) Johnson. Ralph served in the RCAF from 1939-1946 as a WAG (wireless air gunner) attached to the RAF upon arrival in London and was honourably discharged in 1946 as MWO first class. Actively involved in community, Ralph served as president of the Digby Lions Club, the Digby Curling Club and the Digby Golf Club, and was a founding director in the formation of the Digby Neck Volunteer Fire Department. Ralph also served as a director of the Digby Housing Authority. He was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Bear River Branch. Ralph was predeceased by his wife, Lillian Ruth (Munroe) Johnson, and his brother, Carl Newman Johnson. Surviving Ralph are sons, Douglas and Gary, both of Bridgewater; as well as daughters, Valerie, Edmonton, Alta.; Marilyn, Gatineau, Que.; and Rosetta, Waterville, Kings Co. He is also survived by sisters, Thelma (Parker Manzer), Ashmore; Lois, Ontario; Lillian (Alan Wilhelm), Ontario; and brothers, Roger (Marion), Lower Sackville; Walter Jr. "Buddy", Ontario; as well as several nieces, nephews and grandchildren. Cremation has taken place as per Ralph's wishes under the direction of Sweeny's Funeral Home, Bridgewater, and a memorial tribute service will be held in the Royal Canadian Legion Branch in Digby on July 19, at 1 p.m. A private family committal will follow in the Baptist cemetery. No flowers at the request of the family.
