Obituary of Wallace Mailman

Wallace Keith Mailman 85, Hemford, Lunenburg County, passed away September 23, 2005 in the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Hemford, he was the son of the late Edward Wallace and Anna Blanche (Ramey) Mailman. He resided in Hemford all his life and enlisted in RCAF January 8, 1941. He served overseas during the war and was discharged October 13, 1945. Upon returning from the war, built and restarted a family business of a General Store in Hemford until closing in December of 1987, which ended an 84 year era of Mailman’s General Store in Hemford. He was past Fire Chief of the Hemford District Fire Department as well as a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 102 New Germany. He was also a member of the Air Crew Association. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Frances (Turner) who resides at the Hillside Pines Home for Special Care, Bridgewater ; sons, Wallace (Marie), Sherwood Park, Alberta; Gary K. (Wendy), Beaconia, Manitoba; Brian, at home; grandchildren, Gary B. (Renee), Lower Branch; Shelley (Charlie), Hemford; Natalie (Terry), Edmonton, Alberta; Jonathon, Sherwood Park, Alberta; great grandchild, Talesse Rawding, Hemford; nieces, Janet and Judith Ann; nephews, Peter, Bruce, Michael and Paul. He was predeceased by sisters, Gertrude, Aileen, Fern, Lorna, Betty and Connie. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 7 to 9pm in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater with a public legion tribute service being held at 7pm and from where a memorial service will be held 11am Wednesday, Rev Joan Conrad officiating. Burial will follow in the Hemford Cemetery. Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hemford Cemetery Fund, Parkinson Foundation of Canada- Maritime Region, 5475 Spring Garden Rd., Halifax NS, B3J 3T2 or the charity of your choice.
