Obituary of Mary O’Brien

Mary Elsie O'Brien 76, of Bridgewater. With pain in our hearts we announce the passing of our precious mother Mary. Her strength and courage has been an inspiration to all of those who knew her and her spirit will continue in the hearts of her ten children. She was a member of the Fairview Legion Ladies auxiliary for many years and a member of the Bridgewater Legion Ladies auxiliary for 14 years. She had many laughs with the club girls and loved to play cards, bingo and crafts. She loved spending time with her family and friends and her long time companion Jim Walker. She was the daughter of the late Wallace and Mary Jane (Broussard) D’eon (Deyoung). Surviving are her sons, John, Bridgewater; Patrick, Fort St. John, B.C.; Shaun (Jean) Lower Sackville. Daughters, Devonna Edwards (Donnie), Lower Sackville; Maureen Naugler (Grant), Dartmouth; Colleen Mackenzie (Chissy), Dartmouth; Michelle Grandy (Don), Burlington, Ont; Holly Kelly (Paul), Fall River; Mary Ellen Hernden (Dwight), Bridgewater; Prima Bouchard (Marc), Dartmouth. Sadly missed by her 17 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; her brother Joseph (Margaret) Deyoung, Antigonish; sisters, Martha Doyle (Warren) Lismore; Johanna Mackenzie (Joseph), Antigonish; Stella Doiron (Francis), Antigonish; Beatrice McGrath, Ont; step sister, Genevieve McGinnis, Halifax. She was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, John O’Brien. Brothers, Charles, Francis, Walter and Raymond; sisters, Isabelle, Florence. Step mother, Elizabeth “Bessie”, step brother Jack. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Sunday in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. A funeral mass in celebration for her life will be 11 a.m. Monday in St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Bridgewater. Msgr. William Wamboldt officiating. Burial to follow in Brookside Cemetery. No flowers by request. Donations may be made to South Shore Regional Hospital – Palliative Care.
