Obituary of Hugh MacLeod

Hugh A. MacLeod 82, of Aulenback Point Rd. Sweetland, Lunenburg County, passed away December 24, 2001 at home. Born in Bridgewater, in 1919, he was the son of the late Daniel A. and Annie F. (Fitch) MacLeod. He lived most of his life in Bridgewater, and moved to Mush-a-mush about 20 years ago. He was a veteran of the Second World War from 1939 to 1945, and served with the W.N.S.R. and was a sergeant in the Signal Platoon, serving in England, Sicily, Italy, and Holland, and was awarded the Oakleaf (mentioned in despatches) in Italy. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #24, Bridgewater; a member of the W.N.S.R. Memory Club, Bridgewater; a member and Past Master of Acacia Lodge #39, Bridgewater, and was presented with the Meritorious Service Medal in 1990. When the war ended, he operated a Taxi Business for 5 years, worked for C.N.R. for 5 years and with Irving Oil for 20 years as Branch Manager, Bridgewater, retiring in 1975. He is survived by sons Daniel N. and James A.; sisters Jean Schmeiser, Bridgewater and Everill MacLachlan, Ottawa; five grandchildren and two nieces. He was predeceased by his wife Ruth P. and infant son John A. There will be no visitation at the funeral home by request. A Public Graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday in Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater, Rev. Ivan Norton officiating. No flowers by request.
