Obituary of Basil Croft
Basil William Alfred Croft
82, of Bridgewater passed away April 9, 2006 in the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Buckfield, Queens County, he was a son of the late Alfred and Muriel (Tratt) Croft. He served in the Second World War 1942 – 1945 with the 7th Medium Regiment # 183 as a gunner in Canada, England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 24 Bridgewater. He was employed with D. and E. Industries for several years as a carpenter. Then he was employed at the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic in Lunenburg until his retirement. He is survived by his wife, the former Doreen Beck; daughters, Sue Ann (John) Cotterill, Truro; Teresa (David) Wamboldt, Wileville; 4 granddaughters; sisters, Ruby Lohnes, Bridgewater; Muriel “Kitty” Jodrey, Watford; Ruth (Ralph) Uhlman, Chelsea; brothers, Douglas (Bonnie) and Wilfred all of Buckfield. He was predeceased by sister, Margaret; brothers, Edmund and Murray. Visitation will be Tuesday from 7 to 9 with a public legion tribute service being held at 7pm in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater and from where funeral service will be held 11am Wednesday, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 24 Chaplain Father Robert Coote officiating. Burial will follow in the Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater. Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 24 Poppy Fund or the charity of your choice.
