Obituary of Ottis Delong

Ottis Lorraine DeLong 81, Of Barss Corner, Lunenburg County, passed away on Saturday, March 18, 2006 in the Q.E. II Health Sciences Centre, Infirmary Site, Halifax. Born in Barss Corner, he was the son of the late Herman Prescott and Blanche Ethel (Risser) DeLong. Ottis began his education in Barss Corner and completed high school in New Germany. He then studied business at Horton Business Academy, Acadia University, he then studied agriculture at McDonald College, McGill University. Ottis loved farming his entire life, with innovation and hard work he developed a successful egg production, grading and sales business in Barss Corner and was also a Christmas tree producer, shipping his product throughout the United States. He served as the National Director for the Canadian Egg Producers Council for numerous years. Ottis was a member of the Barss Corner United Baptist Church, Barss Corner where he has been active during his entire life, having served as a deacon, trustee, Sunday school teacher and choir member. Ottis is survived by his wife of fifty years, the former Estella Marie Joudrey; daughters, Patricia (Greg) Dickie, Truro; Pamela (Allison) McNabb, Red Deer, Alb.; sons, Ralph (Barbara); James (Tina), all of Barss Corner; daughter in law, Sue, Peterborough, Ont; 14 grandchildren; sisters, Jean MacKay, New Germany; Vivian Eisener, Farmington; brothers, Carl (Beatrice), Bridgewater; Harry (Pauline), Springfield; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Dr. William H. DeLong; brothers, Vernon and Laurie. Visitation for family and friends will be 7-9 p.m. today (Monday) in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, 4895 route 10, New Germany. Funeral 3 p.m. Tuesday in Barss Corner United Baptist Church, Barss Corner.
