Obituary of Lawrence Gray

Lawrence C. Gray 100, Of LaHave, Lunenburg County, passed away Friday, February 10, 2006 at the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater after a brief illness. Born in LaHave, he was a son of the late Fraser and Mabel (Wile) Gray. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. In the 1940’s, he served in the R.C.A.F. Following his return to LaHave, Lawrence along with his father and brothers, operated the LaHave Outfitting Company, which still exists today as the LaHave Bakery. He was an honored member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 24, Bridgewater. He served as a custodian for the LaHave Post Office and was a longtime member of the LaHave Volunteer Fire Department. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hockey player and skater well into his late years. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Ruby (Richard), as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Leland, Elliot, Marvin, Teleen, Fenwick, Webster, Mark; a sister Vivian, as well as his nephew, Allan. A memorial service will be held 2pm Wednesday, February 15, 2006 in St. James Anglican Church, LaHave, Rev David Phillips officiating. A private family burial will take place in Fort Point Cemetery, LaHave, at a later date. There will be no visitation at the funeral home by request. A public legion tribute service will be held 7pm Tuesday in Sweeny’s Funeral Chapel, Bridgewater. Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. James Anglican Church or the South Shore Regional Hospital Foundation, Bridgewater.
