Dorothy Louise Hanley
94, of Bridgewater, passed away Sunday, April 16, 2006 in the Rosedale Home for Special Care, New Germany. Born in Lower Branch, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Hannah (Mailman) Smith. Dorothy attended the Provincial College in Truro and maintained her interest in the education of young people. She was a faithful member of the United Baptist Church in Bridgewater and participated as a choir member for over 60 years. She was a member of Group 1V in support of church projects, directed Vacation Bible School and taught in the Sunday School. She served her community through Eastern Star, Girl Guides, South Shore Chorale and the Hospital Benefit Chorus. Dorothy will be remembered for her love of family, her keen sense of humor, her warm smile and her ability to make others feel good about themselves. She is survived by daughters, Joanne (Bob) Olive, New Minas; Dawn (John) Collins, Bridgewater; grandsons, Darren (Pat); Brian, Matthew (Keri), Adam; granddaughter, Natasha; great granddaughters, Paige and Bailey; great grandson, Raphaël; numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Harold; sons, Richard “Bunny”, James in infancy; brothers, Albert, Omlah, Dougald, Gordon, Cecil, Clarence, Harold, Lester; sisters, Beatrice, Gladys, Marjorie. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 7 to 9pm in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Funeral service will be held 11am Thursday in the Bridgewater United Baptist Church, Rev Eric Campbell officiating. Family flowers only.
