Obituary of Evelyn Schmeissen

Evelyn Victoria Schmeisser Of Bridgewater. It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Evelyn Schmeisser on July 8, 2006 at the age of 95 years, in the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born December 18, 1910 in Bayport, NS, she was the eldest daughter of the late Albert and Victoria Colp. Evelyn loved life and loved her family dearly. Family functions were a special joy to her. She was an avid card player and was a member of the Bluenose Sr. Citizens Club in Lunenburg, Dayspring and district Golden Youth Club and the Seniors Citizens Group in Bridgewater. Evelyn was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Halifax for many years and transferred to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Bridgewater. Evelyn and Everett wintered in Florida for 27 years, making many friends including her cousin Robert Ritcey and his wife Bobbie, their Florida family. She was a member of Easter Star # 7 in Halifax and held an office there, upon moving to Bridgewater she transferred to Mae Chapter # 38 where she held an office until this past year, receiving her 50 year jewel in August 2001. Evelyn will be deeply missed by her loving children, Nancy (Reg) MacMillan, Bridgewater and Robert (Barbara) Schmeisser, Halifax. She will be sadly missed by grandchildren, Heather MacMillan (Marcel Hardy), Windsor; Kathy (Ian) Spence, Martock; Susan (Earl) Curran, Montaque, PEI; Scott Schmeisser (Ceri Young), Montreal; Shaun Schmeisser, Halifax. She thought the world of her great grandchildren and “Big Nana” will be missed by Emma, Ryleigh and Lane Spence; Ryan and Colin Curran and Isabelle MacMillan. She is survived by sisters, Freda Kernaghan, Evangeline Spindler; brother, Ray and sister-in-law Florence Colp all of Halifax; sister’s -in-law, Iona Colp, Mahone Bay; Phyllis Schmeisser, Lunenburg and Beryl Schmeisser, Halifax. She was predeceased by husband Everett after 58 years of marriage; also by brother, Borden and brother’s-in-law Frank Kernaghan, Bruce Spindler, Arnold, Norman and Roseville Schmeisser. A memorial service to celebrate Evelyn’s life will be held 2pm Wednesday, July 12, 2006 in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Bridgewater, Rev Paul Jensen officiating, with a reception to follow in the church hall. Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Bridgewater or the charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. There will be no visitation at the funeral home by request. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the 4th floor of the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater for all their wonderful care over the past four months.
