Catherine "Kaye" Anne Smith
78, Bridgewater, passed away on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 in Harbour View Haven Nursing Home, Lunenburg, where she had been residing. Born in Florence, Cape Breton, she was a daughter of the late Duncan and Alexandra (Fergusen) MacKenzie. Kaye and Wylie settled in Bridgewater in 1949, where they established South Shore Veterinary Services and where she had also taught school for several years at Bridgewater High School. She was past president of Bridgewater Ladies Curling Club and member of the Bridgewater United Church, choir and UCW. Surviving are her husband, Wylie; daughter, Connie, husband Guy, Martins River; sons, Christopher, LaHave Manor, Dayspring; Alexander “Sandy”, Bridgewater. Grandsons, Callum Haughn, Jake Wentzel. Sisters, Joan (James) Caldwell, North Sydney; Gloria (Gordon) MacKeigan, Florence; 7 nieces and nephews. Visitation 7 – 9 p.m. Thursday in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater and where funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday. Rev. Ruth Brown officiating. Burial in Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater. No flowers by request. Donations may be made to Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or Harbour View Haven Nursing Home, Lunenburg.
