Obituary of Lincoln Freeman

Lincoln A. Freeman 89 – Passed away peacefully at home on January 26, 2007. Born May 10, 1917 in Buckfield, Queens County, he was the youngest son of the late Robie and Cora (Arnburg) Freeman. After working a few years in the local woodlands, he moved to Dartmouth where he worked at Clark Ruse Aircraft. Joining the army in 1942, he saw service in England, Scotland, Sicily, Italy, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. After the war he returned to Canada and worked at Orange Crush in Halifax. In 1948 he moved to Greenfield, Queens County where in 1951 he married his wife Alean. He worked for the Department of Fisheries, mostly on the Medway River, until his retirement in 1982. He was one of the original members of the Greenfield and District Fire Department serving as Chief for 21 years, thereafter being named Honourary Chief. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, member of the Acadian District IOOF, member of the FSNA South Shore Branch, and Sexton, Trustee and Field Council member of the Greenfield United Baptist Church, as well as Trustee of the Parsonage. He sang in the choir for many years, was bass singer in the Greenfield Four Quartet, taught and was Superintendent of the Sunday school, and was a Young People’s leader. He leaves behind his wife Alean, daughter Cheryl and husband Joel Craft (Middle Sackville), son Darrell (Halifax), grandsons Evan and Ian Craft (Middle Sackville), and sister Mildred Wile (Waterloo). He was pre-deceased by brothers Everett, Banford, Charles, Wilfred, Hardy and George, half-brothers Clarie, Ralph, Arthur, and half-sisters Margaret and Ada. A private interment will take place at Pine Rest Cemetery in Greenfield on February 17. After the burial there will be a celebration of his life in the Greenfield United Baptist Church at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Greenfield United Baptist Church or the Greenfield and District Fire Department. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater.
