Elsie Gertrude Gilbert
80, Of New Germany, Lunenburg County, passed away on Sunday, June 24, 2007 in the Veteran’s Unit of Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg, where she had been residing. Born in Barss Corner, she was a daughter of the late Leland and Grace (Eisnor) Burns. She was a veteran of the Second World War having served with the Royal Canadian Women’s Army Corp. She resided in Douglas, NB for over 40 years and then returned to live in New Germany several years ago. Surviving are her daughters, Burla Gilbert (Humphrey), Tanzania, Africa; Nanette (Glen) Davis, PE., sons, David (Joan), British Columbia; Danny (Susan Silliker), Fredericton; 12 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; sisters, Pearle Tufts, Bridgewater; Virginia McKean, Pinehurst; brother, Donald (Elizabeth), Liverpool; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sister, Glenna, Marjorie in infancy; brothers, Lorimer, Herbert, Wesley, Harold, Gerald in infancy; granddaughter, Monica Gilbert. Visitation 7 – 9 p.m., Wednesday in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, 4895 route 10, New Germany. Funeral 3 p.m. Thursday in Barss Corner United Baptist Church, Barss Corner. Rev. Jennifer Joudrey officiating. Burial to follow in Barss Corner Community Cemetery, Barss Corner. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Veteran’s Unit of Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital.
