Obituary of Harris Haughn

A loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away on Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at home surrounded by those he loved, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the son of the late Bradford and Lugene (Richards) Haughn. At the young age of sixteen, Harris began his ventures at sea with the Shell Oil Company and later spent many years working as a stationary engineer on the gypsum boats. In 1966, he began a successful career as chief engineer at the Dawson Memorial Hospital, Bridgewater and later moved to the new facility, South Shore Regional Hospital on Glen Allan Drive, retiring in 1993. Harris was a sports enthusiast, he spent many hours with family and friends on the golf course from early spring to late fall. During the winter months, he could be found at the bowling alley or the hockey arena, he was an avid Montreal Canadians fan. His greatest passion was reserved for his Labrador retriever Pal and Smokey the cat. Harris enjoyed his home on the banks of the LaHave River where he spent happy hours with his family boating. He was a gifted model ship builder completing a replica of the Bluenose and his latest project was detailed replica of the Titanic. Harris was a former member of the Pleasantville and District Fire Department.
