Denis won a scholarship and was schooled at the Christ College, London. He joined the Royal Navy RNVR in 1941 at the age of 17 to serve in the Second World War. Receiving a commission to Sub-lieutenant in 1943, he joined the Midget Submarine (X-Craft) and subsequently was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for actions in the Far East. On October 16, 1944 he married Helen Findley Andrews of Port Glasgow, Scotland. He worked at the London Stock Exchange from 1946 to 1973 as a programmer where he was instrumental in the computerization of the stock exchange; he later became a senior systems analyst. Denis continued to live in New Germany until his death on Sunday, April 23, 2017 where he passed away in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater at the age of 92.
