Just wanted to tell the family that I truly enjoyed visiting with Rita and Burpee when I was a child staying with my grandparents, Jim and Ruth Carver at the cottage in Crescent Beach. A lovely couple who made life fun and interesting. They were in love and it showed. So sorry for your loss.

To Burpee's family and friends, on behalf of the Executive and member dancers of the Square and Round Dance Federation of Nova Scotia, we extend our condolences. Burpee and Rita are fondly remembered for their contribution to the joy of square dancing. On a personal note, they would join another couple to meet us in Bridgewater for Friday night suppers before going square dancing at Sunrise Squares--fun times remembered.

Dear William, Barri, Sharri and families,
Margaret and I were saddened at the news of Burpee's death. He and Rita had been such gracious hosts during both pastoral and casual visits. Burpee was able to make one feel completely at ease and proved over the years to provide wise observations on life and faith. He had a special, spiritual strength and wisdom.
I had a brief visit with Burpee a couple of weeks ago at Rosedale. I had hoped to have many more, but God had other plans. So now Burpee is with Rita once more. Both were a blessing to us.
God bless and keep you all in this time of loss and renewal!

Dear Sharri & Barry - we just heard from Mum that your dear Dad has passed away. We are so very, very sorry for your loss - your Dad was one of those people who has been in my life forever. It has been so difficult watching his health, both mental and physical, failing him these past years. From the time I was a little girl he has held a very special place in my heart.
We have wonderful memories of our visits to your parents' home after they moved to Crescent Beach where we always seemed to empty a box of chocolates on our visits. Between your Mum & Dad and Rodney & I all that was left were the empty papers in the box when it was time to leave! (smiles)
Rodney and I often chuckle about the time your Mum and Dad drove across Canada and phoned for directions to our home. Your Dad said, "Oh don’t hang up, we will just stay on the line while you guide us to your street"! I still remember his shock when he got back to Nova Scotia and received his telephone bill for those directions!! He told us he thought he was just making a local call and had no idea, as far as the phone company was concerned, his calls were originating from Nova Scotia!
Next May, when you are picking the MayFlowers off the front bank at your parents’ home, know we are on Vancouver Island remembering our spring time visit to Crescent Beach when we also picked MayFlowers off your parents’ front lawn.
We will be holding you and your families close in our hearts tomorrow as you celebrate your Dad - he was one of those very kind people who will always be remembered with fondness by both Rodney and I. I like to believe your Dad and Mum are together again, with their minds sharp and their bodies young and healthy.
May you feel God’s arms wrapped around you tomorrow giving you comfort and strength as you gather with your family and friends,
With our heartfelt sympathy
Love Peggy & Rodney

Sharri, Barri and family:
Please share our condolences with your family.
Your dad was such a part of our family and the odd Burpee story is still told these days!
So many stories to share of Reg and Burpee and their adventures. The hunting trips each November, where the deer population of Lunenburg county had no fear of declining, but every year they went with the same gusto as when they were much younger. Or driving to work at MT&T on clean up week in Dartmouth. They always left a little early to see what gems were out there, and one ended up being the first bathroom sink we had at the cottage in Seafoam.
Our dads were true friends and the world will miss now 2 of them, but their spirits will live on. Burpee had a way to connect with people whether at work or selling Xmas trees each season. Always a smile and a "how she going" with his New Germany accent.
Our love to all.
Bill, Maggie, Luke and Katherine Short

Sharri, Simon and Sarah
We share in your sadness of the here and now, with full confidence that brighter days lie ahead.
Although we had only the occasion to meet Burpee a handful of times, we feel close to him through the lifetime of tales shared over the years by you and Sarah. His gentle soul and kind heart were hallmarks of the lens through which he lived his life - a throwback to when a man's word was his bond and treating all with respect was the norm. No doubt as Simon and Sarah grown older, they will be guided by the fine examples that Burpee and Rita represented. We are grateful to have had both in Sarah's life and the roles they played in shaping who she has become.
Sharri, we can understand how much your father meant to you and the important role he played in helping you confront the very many challenges you have faced. He taught you well throughout the years and in particular, through so many of the rough patches. You can be confident that the bond you shared will never be broken. No matter what lies ahead of you in your future, know that he is riding on your shoulder as he always has. He won't be forgotten.
May God bless you through these current tough times, but trust in the knowledge that you are prepared for the brighter days that lie ahead.
Much love,
Beth and David.

Words cannot convey my thoughts for you at this time. Fathers are special to daughters as I well know. You and I Sharri have had our fair share of loss in our lives so I feel a connection to you especially at this time. My father, brother and husband all died suddenly and with each one a different void ensued. However, we both are strong people and live a an absolutely wonderful place; where I feel the spirit of my loved ones everytime I look down the beach, across the islands and out of the Bay--they never leave you. If ever you want to drop by just for some tea or a walk around the garden feel free to drop in. I am usually gone all week but home Friday nights onwards to Sundays to relax and enjoy my space. Respectfully, Lise Bell

My love and sympathy for your family, along with wonderful memories. Your father had a big heart and loved life and loved his family. I'm remembering many wonderful times, both recent visits -- meteor showers by the water with your extended family and meeting up on Crescent Beach -- and visits with your family way back when we were kids. Singing a song in his memory -- and look forward to seeing you soon and sharing some good memories.
Much love to you all!
