Obituary of William Arthur Rhodenizer
RHODENIZER, William “Billy” Arthur – Age 83, Bridgewater, Lunenburg Co., died suddenly on Saturday, August 19, 2017 in Liverpool. Born April 11, 1934 in Bridgewater, he was a son of the late William Archibald and Leda Frances (Thompson) Rhodenizer.
Billy was a dedicated member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church where he served as church council and the property committee and sang in the Celebration and Praise and the Adult choirs. He was also a former Boy Scout leader and was a volunteer with the Senior Wheels as a bus driver. Billy served the Town of Bridgewater with great pride. Billy joined the fire department on January 28, 1963 starting as a nozzle man, then later became a lieutenant, deputy chief and then served as a fire chief from 1984-1992. He then served as a town councillor from 1992-1998. He was a member and past president with the Nova Scotia Fire Officer’s Association and sat on the Nova Scotia Arson Prevention Council.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Alice May (Langille) Rhodenizer; daughter, Jill Rhodenizer, Bridgewater; son, Rev. Craig (Susan) Rhodenizer, Lewiston, NY; grandson, Stephen Rhodenizer, Lewiston, NY; cousin, Betty; many other cousins in the Annapolis Valley and locally. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his only brother, Wallace.
There will be no visitation at the funeral home by request. Service of Remembrance will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, September 16, in St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 25 Phoenix Street, Bridgewater. Rev. Paul Jensen officiating. Family flowers only, donations may be made to the Bridgewater Fire Department, St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church or charity of choice.
