Obituary of Hazen Donald Beck

BECK, Hazen Donald – Age 69, of Pine Grove, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on April 30th, 2018 in the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born on February 25th, 1949, Hazen was the oldest son of the late Donald and Beatrice (Zwicker) Beck. He grew up in Newcombville and shared many childhood adventures and (possibly a few) misdeeds with his brothers, Paul and Gerald, and his close friends. He attended Saint Mary's University for three years before joining the RCMP and graduating with his BA from the Memorial University of Newfoundland in 1973. While serving in the RCMP, Hazen studied part-time and then received his CGA designation in 1989. His 29-year service with the RCMP brought Hazen and his family to St. John's, Bishop's Falls, Toronto, Ottawa and Halifax, but he always dreamed of returning to his beloved Lunenburg County. After retiring from the RCMP, that dream came true, and Hazen and his wife Sue moved to Pine Grove where Hazen failed at retiring and started his own accounting firm instead. Hazen was a quiet and gentle man who loved his family, his dogs, being outside in the woods, country music, his plaid shirts and time at the camp. Hazen is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Suzanne (Curran) Beck, Pine Grove; daughters, Tracy (Darren) Adamson, Fall River; Charmaine (Richard) Dymond, Halifax; grandchildren, Tyler, Julie, Eric, Alex, and Sammy; brothers, Paul (Crystal Madill) Beck, Auburndale; Gerald (Madonna Scott) Beck, Bridgewater. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of C.F. Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater with a visitation from 2-4 p.m. on Wednesday, May 2nd, 2018. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 3rd, 2018 at 2 p.m. in the All Saints Lutheran Church, Newcombville, Pastor Svante Olson officiating. A private burial will be held at the Newcombville Cemetery following the service. Family flowers only. Donations in Hazen’s memory may be made to ElderDog Canada (www.elderdog.ca, 1-855-336-4226) or to the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. His family would like to thank the local ElderDog volunteers for their dedication to taking care of Charlie while Hazen was not able to, and to thank the staff at the hospital for their support and compassion.
