Obituary of Ellen Barclay Smith

SMITH, Ellen Barclay (Freeman) –Mahone Bay, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2018 at the age of 98. Born in Harmony Hills in Queens County, she was a daughter of the late Edward J and Agnes (Smith) Freeman. Ellen is survived by her sisters, Marjorie, Geraldine (Chris) and Alma; sister in-law, Eleanor; grandsons, Eddie (Julie), Roddie (Beth), and Laurie (Sharon); great-grandchildren, Amber, Michelle, Amelia, Jake and Natasha. Besides her parents,  she was predeceased by her husband, Arthur Smith (married in 1940); son, James Smith; daughter, Katherine Smith; grandson, Joeye; great-grandson, Nicolas; sister, Mary; brothers, Raymond and Paul.

Ellen was a member of Trinity United Church, Pleasant River Community. She loved to quilt and spend all the time she could with her children, grandsons and great-grandchildren. She especially enjoyed her many stuffed cats, as they were her favorite animal. Ellen loved telling stories from when she was a little girl, and the moments she shared with her siblings and parents. A special thanks to all the staff at Mahone Nursing Home, as well as Dr. Raymond. A visitation will be held from 1-3 pm on Saturday, June 23 in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Interment to follow at 4 pm in Lake View Cemetery, Pleasant River. Memorial donations may be made to Trinity United Church or a charity of choice.
