Obituary of Richard Allen Varner
VARNER, Richard Allen - Age 60 of New Germany, Lunenburg Co., passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 17, 2019, at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater, with family by his side, after a short, courageous battle with cancer. Born in Bridgewater, he was a son of Gerelene (Woodworth) Varner, New Germany and the late Ray Varner.
Besides his mother, Richard is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl (Veinot); son, Michael (Jaylene), granddaughter, Aaliyah, Maplewood; son, Jason (Ashlee), granddaughter, Gwen, New Canada; sisters, Helene (John) Parnell, New Germany, Michelle MacDonald, Lakeside; brother, Edward (Sheila) Varner, Truro; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was a former employee of Michelin, Bridgewater and retired in 2008 after 30 years. He was a former volunteer firefighter with the New Germany Fire Department. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, New Germany. He enjoyed four-wheeling, fishing, dancing, playing cards and spending time with his family. He cherished his time spent with his two granddaughters, who were the light of his life. He was very proud of his sons. Richard was an all-around family man and will be missed by all those who loved and knew him.
Arrangements are in the care of Sweeny’s Funeral Home, #4895 highway 10, New Germany. There will be no visitation at the funeral home by personal request. A celebration of Richard’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, January 22, 2019, in Trinity Lutheran Church, New Germany. Reverend David Whynot will officiate. A reception will follow in the church hall. Family flowers only by request. A family interment will be held a later date in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.
