Obituary of LeRoy Douglas Lonergan
LONERGAN, LeRoy Douglas - Age 89, of Bridgewater, died peacefully on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at Hillside Pines Home for Special Care in Bridgewater. Born in Lake Paul, he was the son of the late Peter St. Clair and Hazel Catherine (Lutz) Lonergan. His mother died very soon after giving birth to LeRoy so he was raised by Ethel and Enam Joudrey.
LeRoy was a capable carpenter who in later life turned those skills into crafting highly sought-after folk art depicting past generations farm work with oxen. He was fondly remembered as Mr. Lonergan by all the teachers and students at Pentz Elementary school where he managed the maintenance of the facility. He enjoyed a card game of cribbage or 45’s, as well as traveling, camping and fishing. One of the great experiences of his life was a fishing trip to Shabogamo lake, Labrador with Wendell where at least the stories of the fish got bigger every year. Another wonderful experience for him was the chance to travel across Canada with Frances in a camper van they purchased for the event. He was a humble, kind and giving man who touched the hearts of everybody who knew him. He was a devoted husband and father who especially loved being with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was always concerned for the care and safety for Marilyn.
He is recently predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Frances Lonergan, of Bridgewater. He will be sadly missed by his three children, Marilyn, Wendell (Sharon), and Shelley. Also surviving her are the great joys of his life, his grandchildren, Amy (Chris), Sarah (Michael) and Nicholas (Rose) and his great grandchildren, Brianna, Ava, and Mason. He was predeceased by his brother Hartley.
Visitation will be Monday, March 18, 2019 from 7 to 9 p.m., with a funeral service on Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at 2 p.m. both at Sweeny’s Funeral Home, 35 York Street, Bridgewater. Interment will follow at Pleasantville Cemetery, immediate family only please. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of LeRoy can be made to the King's Meadows Residence in Support of Marilyn.
The family of the late LeRoy Lonergan would like to take this opportunity to thank the many people who have supported him and the family throughout this difficult time. Special thanks to extraordinary ladies at Hillside Pines Home for Special Care.
