Obituary of St. Clair Dennison Zinck
ZINCK, St. Clair Dennison - of Lower Northfield. It is with deep regret to announce his passing on Friday, May 17, 2019 at age 87 years and 12 days in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Sweetland to the late Ellen and Fred Zinck.
He is survived by his children, Nelson (Shelly), Debbie (Pat) Larder, and Corry; grandchildren, Tiffani, Hunter, Chad, and Remington and great-grandson, Ethan; sisters, Joyce (Ozzie) Wile, Dianne (Paul) Deamone and brother, Merle (Elaine); special friend, Helen Ernst; several nieces and nephews.. He was predeceased by his son, St. Clair F.I. and brother, Charles.
At age 17, he left home and started working in the woods, then operated a heavy construction crane building bridges for Department of Highways throughout Nova Scotia for fifteen years. He moved to Halifax and operated overhead cranes for Halifax Shipyards for thirty-five years, until retirement. St. Clair was a great musician. At a very young age, his mother influenced and assisted him to play fiddle. He put the fiddle down for a time to learn and play guitar. His idol was always Hank Snow. Playing fiddle at as many house parties as possible, entertaining at hospitals and nursing homes, playing for dances, and at the local county jams, gave him great joy. The greatest pleasure for him was to compete at annual fiddle contests some of which were held in Dartmouth, Sackville, Musquodoboit Harbour and River John, and to win. where he won twelve firsts, and several seconds, and became a Champion Fiddler. St. Clair was a member of Hillcrest Masonic Lodge #93, New Germany.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m., Monday, May 20th, at Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater, where a masonic tribute service will begin at 6:30 p.m. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 21st, from St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, West Northfield. Rev. Svante Olson officiating. Private family interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, West Northfield. Family flowers only please, donations may be made to South Shore Regional Hospital, St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, Maple Grove Cemetery, or a charity of your choice.
