Obituary of Charles Frederick Trifts

of Charles Frederick Trifts 72, Of Bridgewater, Lunenburg County passed away suddenly at home on Tuesday April 29, 2008. Born in Sydney he was the son of the late Frederick and Helen (O’Brian) Trifts. Charles first experience with the military was when he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1952 during the Korean War. Later on he joined and spent a number of years with the United States Marine Corps and served in Vietnam. After his military career Charles went to work with Pinkerton Security and Investigations and worked his way up to the position of Chief Investigator. In later years he became very involved with his community of Bridgewater. He served as President of the local chapter of M.A.D.D., a member of the Canada Day Planning Committee and a director of the LaHave River Salmon Association. He was also very active member with the Royal Canadian Legion Bridgewater Branch No. 24 where he served as an Executive Officer and oversaw several committees. He spent many hours helping to create the Veterans’ Memorial Park. A skilled handyman, he never hesitated to help anyone that needed it, whether electrical, plumbing or carpentry. He enjoyed collecting model trucks and traveling across Canada and the United States with Elizabeth in their RV. He is survived by his partner Elizabeth Severance, daughters Kelly (Roger) Lejeune; Holly (Gary) Henry; Susan Trifts (Bill Clark); sons David (Anne) and Robin (Rose) all of Saint John New Brunswick; sister Ellen Turner, Elwood New Brunswick as well as several grandchildren, great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. There will be a public Legion Tribute service at 7pm Saturday May 3 at Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater, lead by branch Chaplin Rev. Ron Mosley, followed by a reception at the Royal Canadian Legion branch 24. Burial will be at a later date in Petitcodiac, New Brunswick. Family Flowers only, please. Memorials in Charles memory can be made to the Veterans’ Memorial Park or the Poppy Fund; both are entrusted to Royal Canadian Legion Bridgewater Branch No. 24.
