Obituary of Erwin Robert Turner
of
Erwin Robert Turner
62, died suddenly at home on August 24, 2008 with his daughter by his side. Erwin had survived many illnesses and medical interventions, and kept a positive outlook until his death. Erwin lived only four days after the sudden death of his wife, Judi. Erwin grew up in New Ross, Lunenburg County, and worked as a surveyor in Bridgewater for many years, where he eventually owned his own business, Turner Surveys, in Cookville. He had attended Acadia University, and graduated from Nova Scotia Institute of Technology with a diploma in Mechanical Technology. He then worked several years with Kerr Controls in Truro, before he graduated in Land Surveying from the Nova Scotia Land Survey Institute in Lawrencetown and pursued a career in land surveying. Erwin is survived by two children, Dan ( Fiona) in New South Wales, Australia and Heidi (Kevin) James in Burlington, Ontario; two stepsons: Christopher (Sonja) Johnson, Jamie (Yuka) Johnson; grandchildren: Rhys and Erin Wright-Turner; Rebecca, Kady-Mae, and Liam James; and Jeremy Budden; one brother, Arlyn (Jeanette) Turner, Pleasant River; and one sister, Holly (Eldon) Gunn in Dartmouth, N.S. Erwin will be sadly missed by his family, and his best friends, Errol and Doreen Silver, with whom he and Judy spent many memorable times. Erwin was predeceased by his parents Edward and Beulah (Freeman) Turner, and a sister, Heather. Erwin was actively involved in the scouting associations in Bridgewater as a cub leader and went on to serve on the Lunenburg District Council of the Boy Scouts. He was also active in the Holy Trinity Anglican Church. Erwin loved life and enjoyed it until his death. He also loved the woods where he worked, his flower gardens, birds, and his many handyman projects. After retirement, his flower gardens increased and his carved bird collection filled his room. A joint funeral service for Erwin and Judi will be held at 11 a.m. in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, York Street Bridgewater on Tuesday, August 26, 2008. Reception will follow at the Fairview Inn, Queen Street, Bridgewater. Internment will take place at a later date in the New Ross Anglican cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rose Fund, a cancer assistance fund for the South Shore, or any local charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to C.F. Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.sweenysfuneralhome.com
