Obituary of Delma Christine Dorey
DOREY, Delma Christine - At the age of 79, Delma Christine Dorey (nee Joudrey) of Wileville passed away on August 17, 2019. Born on January 4, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Percy and Rena Joudrey of Newburne.
She is survived by her children Patricia, Jeanne, Neil (Kathy) and Natalie (Todd Musseau); many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother Philip; sister Lavene (Roger Nauss); and extended family and friends too numerous to list.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Maynard of 63 years in 2018 and sister, Rose in 1991.
A vibrant spirit, Delma worked tirelessly in the service of her family, church and community. Throughout her life, even until the last few days, Delma’s priority was caring for her family and ensuring their wellbeing. Faith and church fellowship were important to Delma, providing comfort and support throughout the years. She contributed her time and talents to numerous service opportunities and callings in the church. With her life-long sweetheart at her side, Delma was an avid camper and square dancer, developing many treasured and lasting friendships throughout Nova Scotia and beyond. She and Maynard danced with several clubs over more than 30 years, contributing leadership to develop and grow the groups. They also enjoyed camping both near home and at various events throughout the province. They most frequently enjoyed the company of many friends at the local SeaBreeze Campground on the LaHave River, but served in various positions with local, provincial and national level organizations. For much of her early adult life, Delma worked in various in food service positions, however she was most content when she was using her culinary talents to feed and nourish those closest to her, especially her family.
Visitation will be at Sweeny’s Funeral Home, 35 York Street, Bridgewater on Tuesday, August 20 from 7 to 9 p.m. A celebration of Delma’s life will be held on Wednesday, August 21 at 2 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at 337 Aberdeen Road in Bridgewater and will be followed by a reception. Visitation will also be available prior to the service at 1 p.m. at the church. Interment will follow the service for family only. Friends are invited to join the family for a reception upon their return to the church. Donations in Delma’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of choice.
