Obituary of Leonard Joseph Wheeler

WHEELER, Leonard “Lenny” Joseph – It is with great sadness that the family of Leonard “Lenny” Joseph Wheeler of Oakhill, at the age of 60, passed away peacefully with his wife, Pearl Wheeler of 26 years, by his side on  Wednesday, January 8, 2020 in Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg. Born in Sheaves Cove, NL, he is the son of Dorothy Wheeler, Maitland and the late James Wheeler.

Lenny was born in Newfoundland and came to Mahone Bay with his parents at the age of eight. He started fishing shrimp, lobster and mainly on scallop draggers at the age of 15. He traveled over to Newfoundland many times for work and pleasure. Lenny loved to play his guitar and jam with his buddies; he also loved cruising on his boat. He was a Boston Bruins fan and loved to watch sports. He surely will be missed by his family and friends.

Besides his mother and wife, he is survived by children, Della Layse, Cape Breton; Kyle (Kelli) Wheeler, Maitland; Ryan Wheeler, Riverport; step children, Laura (Jamie) Robar, New Germany; Corey (Kelly) Weisner, Armstrong Road; Larry (Leah) Weisner, Chester; grandson, William; step-grandchildren, Colten, Jesse, Brodie, Cohen, Ella, Ashton and step great-granddaughters, Sloane, Blayke and Scarlett; sisters, Audrey (Austin) Wheeler, Stonehurst; Jo-Ann (Doug) Peveril, Hebbville; brothers, Owen (Lisa) Wheeler, Chelsea; Harry (Mona) Wheeler, Blockhouse; Jake (Sherry) Wheeler, Mahone Bay; many nieces and nephews.

Besides his father, he was predeceased by sisters, Madeline Wheeler and Mayda in infancy. A social time of Celebration for the life of Lenny will be held at Sweeny’s Funeral Home, 35 York Street, Bridgewater in the near future. The date will be announced when finalized. No flowers by request, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital or charity of choice.

We would like to give a big thank you to the palliative care team, Dr. Gowen and Kim Berkeley; many thanks to the wonderful people of the VON and Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital, you were all amazing; thank you to all, we couldn’t have made it without you.
