Obituary of Ormand Kaulback
Ormand "Ormie" Chipman Kaulback
96, passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2007 in the DVA Unit, Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Ormie was born June 18, 1910 in Maplewood, he was a son of the late Zacharias and Hanorah (Wentzel) Kaulback. He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving overseas with the 52nd Battery, 3rd Antitank Regiment R.C.A. During his working life, he was a woodsman, farmer, cook and served with the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires. He also drove for Charlie’s Taxi in Middleton for a number of years. Upon retirement, he took up rug hooking as a hobby and appeared twice on the Live at Five TV program displaying his craft. He won numerous awards for his mats at various exhibitions and hundreds of his mats are displayed throughout North America and as far away as New Zealand. A proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion, branch 102, New Germany, where he was honored in 2006 as the last surviving charter member. Ormie is survived by daughters, Pauline Carver, Maine; Glenys Foster, Maplewood; Reta (Milan) Halverson, Bible Hill; Alice (Larry) Taylor, Nictaux. Sons, Thayle “Ted” (Rosanna Zwicker), Union Square; John (Marilyn), Bridgewater; Mahlon “Mel” (Susan), Dartmouth; Victor (Patty), Maple Ridge, B.C.; 19 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren; step children, step grandchildren, step great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews in Canada and USA; Pearlie Carver, Maine. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wives, Vivian Sarty, mother of his children; Dorothy Beals; sisters, Susie, Goldie; brothers, Elmer, Laurin, Theodore, Willis, Frank and Lloyd. A legion tribute service will be held 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, followed by visitation for family and friends, 7 – 9 p.m. in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, 4895 route 10, New Germany. Funeral 2 p.m., Wednesday in Parkdale – Maplewood Emmanuel United Baptist Church, Parkdale. Rev. Leon Langille, Pastor Glenn Carver officiating. Private family burial in Parkdale Community Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Parkdale Community Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund, Parkdale – Maplewood Community Museum or charity of choice.
