My condolences to the family. Mrs. Burton was my teacher in grade two and instilled in me a love of reading that has lasted my whole life. To this day when people ask - what teacher made an impact on your life?- I think fondly of Mrs Burton. So sorry to hear of her passing.

Mrs. Burton was always kind and always interested. My friend was Jo-ann and her mom always welcomed me…countless meals, sleepovers, birthday parties, backyard parties. Bonnie babysat at our house. And there was church. And Mahone Bay School where she was a favourite teacher of my brother and my sister.
Mrs. Burton was also in my kitchen an awful lot, sharing stories and many laughs with my mother. My mom was so fond of Magreta. I like to think she and my mom are together now, sharing a laugh, raising a toast!
Jo-ann, Bonnie, Bob and Lori, I am so sorry for your loss.

Mrs. Burton made the best pistachio squares in town. I was lucky enough to get to know her through her son Bobby. Although I spent much of my time trying to lead him astray, she always had a smile and a kind word for me, as she did for most people. In fact, if there was one word that comes to mind when I think of her, it would be kind. I also had the privilege of teaching with her in Mahone Bay the year she retired. Her love for children and dedication were evident, even at the end of her career. While doing all this she still managed to raise three beautiful daughters and Bobby. The Toomey's will miss her. Peace and love.

We were very sorry to hear of the passing of your Mother and our dear friend Magreta. She was such a wonderful, kind and compassionate person. She was part of our family really, and that friendship began when both young families relocated to Bridgewater many years ago. We were blessed to have had her in our lives all these years and she was loved by us all. We will miss her dearly. Till we meet again!

I was lucky enough to reconnect with Mrs Burton (my grade 5 teacher in Mahone Bay) when her husband was in the hospital the same time as my Mom (who was her friend). I purchased a steel desk from Magreta and found a little note tucked under the pencil tray when I took it apart to clean it. I returned this note to her at the hospital only to find out it was a note from her Mother which she had always kept with her but had lost it many years ago. She said she was so happy (tears were flowing all around) that I purchased the desk from her as she never would have received it back otherwise. My sincere condolences go out to her family. Ps... She gave me her chair, hole punch and school door name plaque with the desk. All items are available to the family if they would like to hold onto them in her memory. Just contact me. I was lucky enough to grow up with the Burton family in Bridgewater and spend many holidays and adventures with them all. My dad worked with Bruce for many years at Mill Village so through that our families grew very close. I remember Mrs Burton as a very soft spoken lady who loved spending time at our house and just taking it all in with that great smile. When I had to move my family to Comox B.C. in 2002, Magreta still took the time to send all of us birthday cards throughout the 4 years we were there. Just a special lady with a great heart. The Lee family will miss you immensely and our thoughts are with the entire Burton family during this difficult time.

Mrs. Burton taught me at Mahone Bay Consolidated and I remember she was knitting her daughter a vest with long braid like fringes. She enlisted us kids during lunch hours to help out with the braids. I always reflected that she was one of my favourite teachers who interacted with us on an inspiring level. Later on , I met Bonnie while on a trip to Russia and learned who the vest was being made for. Please accept my condolences on the loss of your Mom. I had the pleasure of meeting up with Mrs. Burton a few years ago at a MBCHS school reunion. Rest easy.

Just read Magreta's obituary. Knowing that she leaves us with good memories, we can only imagine how many wonderful memories she has provided all of you with. Magreta was a fine person and a lovely lady. She was on the committee that called us to share in ministry with Bridgewater United Church. She was involved in so many church activities. She was so proud of all of her family, and we know that she will be greatly missed.
With sympathy,
