I was saddened to read of the passing of Mrs. MacNab. To her family, please accept my sincere condolences. I had the privilege of being a student in one of her English classes at NSTC in the late 1970's. She was truly an amazing educator whom her students strived to emulate. Her presence in class commanded respect for her, just by her amazing love for teaching and her respect for her students. I know she had a great influence on many pre-service teachers that had the privilege of attending her class, including me. Patsy Height-Lewis

Miss Sarty was my Grade 6 Teacher at Alexandra School on Cornwallis St. In Halifax many, many years ago upon reading of her passing on, as it were, I wanted to send my condolences .......and to tell of my appreciation at having such an independent and strong female role model at such a young age!
And also, because my own given name is also Roberta I took a real interest in her!! She was strong and demanding of excellence but just and fair at the same time, I loved how her nails were always perfectly manicures with her White tips always fresh , I loved how smart she was and self contained........she taught me what a woman could achieve on her own!
I am so happy to learn that she experienced love and marriage as well in her remarkable life...... and credit some of my growth and independence directly to her!!!!
May she rest in perfect peace!

Sad to hear that “Miss Sarty“ has passed away but she had good life. When she taught Junior High English at the 3 Wing Air Force base in Zweibrucken Germany, I was one of her pupils. She was a great teacher and all the grammar that I know came from her. Her encouragement of our creative writing was much more fun. Because I moved to NS and also became a teacher, I met her at Teacher’s conferences when she was Mrs. MacNab. It was lovely to meet her as an adult and catch up on the way our lives had progressed. She was teaching at the Normal School in Truro and told me that she was using one of my stories from Grade 8 as an example. I was amazed that she still had it after so many years. She was a wonderful teacher and I always hoped to be like her.
Sincerely,
Patricia Gazley Phelan, age 72

To Mavia and Family, Please accept our heartfelt sympathy.
Roberta, wasn't my teacher but she very generously took time after school hours to help me with my homework. She rented an apartment in our home in Halifax and occasionally after dinner our family would enjoy listening to tales of her travelling adventures. Later, when she returned to live on the "River" she'd bring Mum [Reta] some of those famous raspberries. Great memories.

We rented the lower half in Roberta's house on Pleasant ST. in Truro in the early 70's. I was attending NSTC while she taught there. My husband Don passed away last April. We often talked about great times in Truro. She was a great teacher and landlady. My sympathy to the family. Claire

I attended Teacher's College in the early seventies and I had the privilege of having Miss Sarty as a teacher. I will always remember her kindness and professionalism. She shared many stories of her travel adventures and we would be mesmerized by the accounts of her different experiences. She would welcome large and small groups of students into her home to share a meal and conversation.Such a lovely person has left her mark on many lives. Rest In Peace Miss Sarty.

Roberta was one of my very first teachers at Upper LaHave School in the mid 40's.....one of my first and only memories of her at that time was that she was a disciplinarian. She also taught a Bridgewater Elementary School when I was a High School Student there in the 70's. She always wore a smile and always was a very friendly personality. RIP!

My memory of Roberta is one I have never forgotten and shared with many friends and family. I knit her a cardigan from the fur collected from her dogs and spun into skeins of yarn. She sure did love her Samoyeds. My sincere condolences.
