Obituary of Laurie St. Clair Wile

of Laurie St. Clair Wile It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our father, grandfather and great grandfather, Laurie St. Claire Wile, 87, of Springfield, Annapolis Co. on Sunday, April 13, 2008 . He was the youngest son of the late Alvin and Florence (Conrad) Wile of New Germany. He was predeceased by one son, Laurie Jr. and his life long wife, Edith. Laurie leaves to mourn, his daughters; Carolyn (Rod) Gosse, Dartmouth, Judith (Gordon) Penny, Tremont; Heather (Bradley) Nickerson, Barss Corner; five grandchildren, Robyn (Gary) Zwicker, Melanie (Carson) Greencorn, Adam (Diana) Oickle, Tanya and Christopher Penny; great grandchild, Rachael Zwicker; several nieces and nephews. Laurie was employed by the CN Railway until his retirement. He was a man who came to the aide of anyone who needed his help. He enjoyed being an auctioneer, raised funds for churches and halls and aided people in trouble or sickness. Laurie was a founder of the Springfield and District Fire Department where he was a fireman for 38 years, 27 of those as fire chief. Laurie was a wonderful husband, father and friend. His beaming smile and good sense of humor drew him to touch many lives. He was a life member of the New Germany and Area Lions Club and was voted Lion of the Year in 1992 and 1993; Laurie was a life member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, New Germany. He had a passion for everything he did in his life, a game of cards was a card-slapping good time for Laurie. He had much enjoyment for fishing, hunting, gardening and farming. His reputation as “Santa” followed him throughout his entire lifetime. During the last years of his life, Laurie was a resident at Rosedale Home for Special Care, New Germany. They took excellent care of him and for this we thank them deeply. Although, at times he gave them a run for their money; he also thought of them as his family and Rosedale as his home. Laurie was special in so many ways and our world will forever miss him. There will be no visitation at the funeral home by request. Private family graveside service will be held at a later date in Springfield United Baptist Church Cemetery, Springfield. At that time, both of our loved ones, Laurie and Edith will be placed together again. Donations may be made to Rosedale Home for Special Care or Springfield Cemetery Fund. Arrangements entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home, New Germany where online condolences may be made by visiting www.sweenysfuneralhome.com.
